IOC agrees changes to Games site
08.06.2008
The Olympic authorities have approved four changes to the London 2012 Olympic Park to make it a more useful sporting facility once the Games have finished. Fencing will now be held in the ExCeL arena, while the basketball venue has moved to the northern end of the park. The BMX venue will now be right next to the velodrome, while the handball arena has been turned round. London 2012 chairman Lord Coe said: "These changes are designed to maximise the sporting legacy we leave behind." Coe said the London organisers "only want to build what can be used to maximum effect after the Games". He added: "The IOC has recognised our desire to focus on a tangible legacy and approved these changes today."
