Robertson targets 2012 minus Emms

29.05.2008

Nathan Robertson plans to compete at the London 2012 Olympics even though his mixed doubles partner, Gail Emms, will retire after the Beijing Games.

The British duo won Olympic silver in Athens four years ago and followed that with the 2006 world championship title.

Robertson told BBC 5 Live: "I'll be 35 at London 2012 and it's not unrealistic to think I can carry on until then for a perfect career-ending moment."

He also confirmed he will be fit for Beijing after recent ankle surgery.

The 30-year-old underwent the operation several weeks ago after suffering with the injury for around 18 months.

"The rehabilitation has been going well, I am back playing and I will definitely be fit for the Olympics," he said.

"I had to keep training through the injury as our Olympic qualification period ran for 12 months from May 2006 to May 2007.

"But I wanted to sort it out before the Games so that I can be 100% fit going to Beijing.

"Gail and I want to be on top of the podium and we couldn't do that if I was only 90% fit."
